I've always been a big fan of Sundays. It seems to be the laziest day of the week for me, and it's good to relax before starting a new work week.
To for me, Sundays just don't feel right if it's not sunny out. I'm not sure why, but I've always believed Sundays should be sunny. Maybe it has to do with the word "sun" being in Sunday; or maybe it's because a beautiful sunny day is a great way to end a weekend, but that's how I like my Sundays- sunny. And today didn't disappoint.
However, with it being bright and sunny comes the feeling of needing to do something. It's easy to lay on the couch and watch movies when it's cold and rainy; but when the sun is out I feel the need to get things done. So what did I do with my sunny Sunday?
I decorated a hat box! I know that sounds a little weird, but let me tell you it was a useful project that needed to get done.
So if you know me, I've worked with weddings for over 8 years. After see hundreds of weddings, there are somethings that I refuse to spend a lot of money and a card box is one of them. At the place I used to work, you could rent a card box for $20, or if you go to the store they can cost up to $45. Umm... I think not!
It's just a box where your guest put their cards. There was no way I was spending even $20 on a card box, so it became a do-it-yourself project that took over my weekend. All I used was a plain cardboard hat box, purple fabric for the sides and top, black lace add detail to the side of of the box, a hot glue gun and a utility knife to cut a hole for the cards. Total cost of this project- $3 and 3 hours. (Plus one electric shock from unplugging the glue gun- note to self never touch the pongs when they are still in the outlet!)
I have to say I'm pretty happy with the results, and even happier with the total cost (minus the numb hand/arm). All in all it's been a great Sunday!
